I live in Helena and drink almost exclusively Blackfoot River Beer. Though the growler price is going up ($7 and $6 on wednesday), they still give you a free beer with your growler. The thing i like most about Blackfoot is that the beer is different every week, so it's impossible to make a durable reccomendation. My favorites are: IPA, Stout, and Scottish. You should, however, taste a couple before you buy, or ask around, because every week one of the beers in particularly tasty.
Overall, one of the best breweries I've ever encountered.

All of the beer is great at a minimum. Some is better than just great. Recently the Porter has been awful good (better than great). The staff is generally very cool and they'll let you taste before you buy a pint (or a take-home bottle, of course). 1/2 gallon growlers come with a free 8 ounce beer (for on-premises consumption) of your choice.
Helena is a town that has not much as far as recycling goes. I believe there is NO curbside pickup. I live in Helena now and I find this bothersome --where I came from they picked up recycling twice a week. The eco-friendly answer for those who like to drink a beer or two at home: growlers. You buy the bottle and get it filled. Price per ounce is very reasonable. Beer is great. BONUS: you can feel great knowing that you aren't filling up the local landfill with Fat Tire bottles or whatever it is you'd be drinking.
What's more, it is my understanding that Blackfoot is a responsible corporate citizen. They give to some good causes. I support businesses that support my community.

In my opinion the best brewery in Helena and one of the best in the state of MT. Staff was very friendly. Beer selection was good. My favorite was the Organic Pale Ale and the IPA.

Another day, another growler full of Steamboat Lager. FYI - Look for the old Schmidt's Beer cans above the beer taps when you make a visit.

Excellent beer and constant supporters of local music festivals and KGLT - Bozeman public radio; this is a must stop.

Great tasting beers and a company that truely supports the local music scene. Thanks for underwriting KGLT.

Any visit to Helena would not be complete without visiting this superb micro-brewery. They have some of the best beer I have ever tasted with a local flavor that is all its own.

I have only had their Porter at Pint Night at the Rhino in Missoula, MT. Based on that beer, I would say their beers are excellent. Cheers to you all!

To bad Montana Laws prohibit the sale of more than 48 ounces at a time. Base on the Hefeweizen, porter, and Lewis and Clark Dark would have loved to try more. Unfortunely their limited hours of operation prohibited me from coming back.

When in Helena, stop by and check out this taproom. But be sure to check the hours. They are very limited. The stout and porters were both VERY good! We caught it on St Patty's Day and they had a great group of musicians playing. A definite if you are going to be around long enough to catch them open.
